By joining the United Nations as a volunteer, Dany, as his patients call him, hopes that his medical expertise and day-to-day contributions will help promote peace in the country.

'When I arrived, I first assessed the health risks related to the region and set up the clinic with care services for the patients," says Dr. Daniel.

Ndele is one of the regions of CAR with a small government presence, including police and security forces, and where MINUSCA's priority is to gradually restore the state of authority by facilitating the conditions for their redeployment.

In 2014, national authorities in CAR decided to establish a Special Criminal Court (SCC) to investigate and prosecute serious human rights violations, including crimes against humanity and war crimes. The law on the creation of the Court was promulgated on the 3 June 2015. It demonstrated strong political willingness to end impunity and the importance of equality, justice and freedom in achieving sustainable peace.

En agosto de 2016, el Gobierno de la República Centroafricana y el Sistema de las Naciones Unidas firmaron un proyecto conjunto quinquenal para apoyar la creación del Tribunal Penal Especial, cuyo objetivo general es contribuir a la lucha contra la impunidad, a la reparación del estado de derecho y de la cohesión social y al respaldo del proceso de reconciliación nacional.

En août 2016, le gouvernement de la République centrafricaine et le système de l’ONU ont approuvé un projet commun d’une durée de cinq ans pour soutenir la création de la Cour pénale spéciale. Son objectif principal est de contribuer à la lutte contre l’impunité, de rétablir l’Etat de droit et la cohésion sociale, ainsi que de soutenir le processus de réconciliation nationale.

La présence de la mission ONU depuis 2014 a aidé à sauver de nombreuses vies et grandement amélioré les conditions de délivrance de l’assistance humanitaire vitale en République Centrafricaine (RCA), un pays où approximativement 40% de la population dépend de l’assistance humanitaire pour survivre, d’après le Bureau de la coordination des affaires humanitaires (OCHA). Avec près de 2 millions de personnes ayant besoin d’assistance, et des menaces constantes de violence, les défis auxquels font face les plus de 200 Volontaires ONU au sein de la MINUSCA sont importants.

The UN sets aside 29 May as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers to honour the memory of UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the cause of peace. The Day is also to pay tribute to the estimated one million men and women who have served and continue to serve under the blue flag with professionalism, dedication and courage since the first UN peacekeeping mission was deployed in 1948.
