Les données confirment l’existence d’un lien très fort entre la prise en compte des problèmes de genre, la promotion de la paix, l’engagement civique et le volontariat. C’était le thème du débat, lors d’un événement parallèle organisé le 27 octobre 2016 par le programme de Volontaires des Nations Unies (VNU), le Bureau d’appui à la consolidation de la paix (BACP) et l’Entité des Nations Unies pour l’égalité des sexes et l’autonomisation des femmes (ONU-Femmes), à la mission permanente de l’Allemagne auprès des Nations-Unies à New York.

Data supports the existence of a significant nexus between gender mainstreaming, sustaining peace, and civic and volunteer engagement. This was the topic of discussion at a side event organized on 27 October 2016 by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN in New York.

After announcing the ten winners of the Online Volunteering Award 2012, UNV invited citizens worldwide to vote for their favourite team. The online volunteers that helped UNDP Brazil spread the word about the Rio+20 Dialogues got the most votes. This initiative of the Brazilian government supported by the UN created a direct channel for global civil society participation in Rio+20.

Working with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI), a team of three UN Online Volunteers turned the print version of the United Nations 2013 calendar into an iPhone application. The UN Calender of Observances  app is also the product of collaboration within DPI itself, including staff and interns. This personal task management tool aims to foster interest in and support for the work of the United Nations, and can be downloaded for free from the iTunes Store.

National UN Volunteer Cagla (pronounced “Challa”) Cavusoglu began her assignment in Istanbul last September mobilizing young people in the information technology (IT) field to volunteer and train economically disadvantaged Turkish youth.  

The free e-learning courses, offered by the Cisco Networking Academy, can be put towards certificates in information and communication technologies (ICTs). Once the youth complete the training, they are encouraged to become volunteer trainers.

Aida Safura Niza Othman (Malaysia) is a former UN Volunteer who worked as a UNV Communications Officer in 2010 for UNICEF Uganda.  As part of the HPC/UNV Programme run by Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center (HPC) with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme as its implementing partner, Aida completed six weeks of training in Japan delivered by HPC in collaboration with Canadian, Swedish and other international institutes.

In April of 2012, a web-based platform to fight corruption was launched. This innovative civil society approach to tackle corruption through social media was introduced to the people of Kosovo. Just like other social media sites, this interactive site provides opportunities for citizens of Kosovo to freely report corruption cases that they face and exchange comments about corruption. Responsible bodies in the Government follow-up on reported cases and these reported cases will then appear as either “verified” or “unverified”.
