Bonn, Germany—The Republic of Korea, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), participated in the Asian Partner Roundtable hosted by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) at the United Nations Campus in Bonn on 12–13 May 2026.
Held during International Volunteer Year 2026, the Roundtable focused on how volunteer action can strengthen solidarity and practical cooperation in the region and globally.
The Republic of Korea has maintained a strong partnership with UNV under the Full Funding programme since 1986. Roundtable discussions focused on Korean youth and on retaining Korean talent through volunteer assignments.
Mr. Choi Won-seok, Director-General for International Organizations and Nuclear Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, shared, "Forty years of partnership between the Republic of Korea and the UN Volunteers is a milestone worth celebrating and reflecting on. UNV has been instrumental in cultivating global talent, supporting the personal and professional growth of young Korean nationals. As UNV's largest full-funding contributor, Korea remains committed to advancing the work of the UN and empowering future generations through volunteerism."
Toily Kurbanov, UNV Executive Coordinator, said, "For 40 years, the Republic of Korea has backed UNV with steady support. This Roundtable is about keeping our cooperation practical, fit for today's needs and setting a clear direction for the next phase."
A Letter of Exchange was signed on 14 May by UNV and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, with the UNV Executive Coordinator, on the sidelines of the event to mark 40 years of collaboration.
