Diana Cocoru is a UN Online Volunteer from Romania who supports the work of Kabissa. She learned about Kabissa through the UNV Online Volunteering service.
Kabissa is a volunteer-led nongovernmental organization (NGO) that helps African civil society organizations to use information and communication technology (ICT) to benefit their communities. They manage an online community platform that connects people and organizations working in Africa for networking, information sharing and peer learning.
As a Volunteer Coordinator for Kabissa, Diana introduces new volunteers from all over the world to the team and provides support in projectizing their activities as needed and slotting them into the roadmap. She also monitors volunteers' workplans and performs quarterly evaluation interviews with current volunteers. She is inspired and touched by peoples desire to cooperate and put their energy together for a common goal.
Diana and the other volunteers have mutual respect and support for each other as they all recognize that their important contribution to Kabissa comes along with other professional and personal time commitments.
It can be challenging for Diana at times to keep a group of online volunteers motivated, but she continues to find new ways to engage and inspire them. Diana, along with the other volunteers, is a respected and appreciated part of the team. She has also learned from the organization, and continues to improve her leadership, social and IT skills.
Diana has three Bachelors degrees in Law, European Affairs and Economics and a Masters degree in External Relations and Diplomacy in the European Union. She can speak English, French, German, and a bit of Arabic and Spanish. Diana developed a particular interest in Africa after participating in the Geneva International Model United Nations in 2011. She knew then that she wanted to invest time and energy in working with African communities.
I would encourage everyone to volunteer. It is important to let your passion guide your choice of a volunteering field.
