In partnership with the United Nations, Bonn Tourist Information has launched guided tours of the UN Campus, offering the public rare access to a site normally closed to visitors. The tours provide insights into the work of the United Nations in Bonn and the role the city plays in global cooperation. The tours were officially launched at a press event on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, on the UN Campus.
Mayor Guido Déus highlighted Bonn’s long-standing connection to the United Nations and the importance of making this presence visible to the public: “Bonn has been closely linked with the United Nations for many years and has developed into an important centre for sustainability and international cooperation. The UN Campus, more than any other place in Bonn, represents the transformation from the former capital to an international city of sustainability. Building on the efforts of the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to further strengthen and expand Bonn’s UN presence, the new offering adds another key element in showcasing Bonn’s international importance in a way that can be seen and experienced.”

For more than 30 years, the United Nations has been based in Bonn’s former government district. Today, the city hosts 27 UN entities and around 1,200 staff, making Bonn the largest UN location in Germany. The UN Campus—home to landmarks such as the Langer Eugen, the Wasserwerk and the Climate Tower—continues to grow, most recently with the opening of a new international office for UN Women.
Toily Kurbanov, Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) shared: "We opened the doors. It means something plain. The work of the United Nations in Bonn is not hidden. It stands in the open, tied to the city and its past, held up by our work globally and with Bonn itself. It is simple: people should see it, walk into it, feel close to it. We thank the city for standing with us. Now we begin the tours. Welcome—herzlich willkommen."
Modelled on tour programmes in Vienna and Geneva, the new format opens the UN Campus to visitors through guided walks that combine global development work with local political history—from the “Bonn Republic” to today’s role as a hub for sustainability and climate action. A highlight includes panoramic views from the historic Langer Eugen building overlooking Bonn and the Siebengebirge.
