In the field, most UN Volunteers work in remote areas where health services are quite rare. In Chad, every year brings the risk of natural disaster and sadly, road accidents are part of daily life. As a result, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme set up First Aid training for UN Volunteers working in Chad. This three-day session was held in February in collaboration with the Chadian Red Cross in N’Djamena.

During fair weather, most of us take water and sanitation for granted, counting on the water taps and lavatories to work properly when we need them.  But after a heavy rainfall, we want the people who provide these services to be on the job and in peak performance.  The United Nations Mission to the Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad (MINURCAT) in Birao, CAR and Abeche, Chad, benefited from the skills and services of at least two UNV Water and Sanitation Technicians.

Under the UNDP “Support Project to the Electoral Cycle in Chad”, 21 UN Volunteers were recruited to support the Chadian Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). During their assignment the UN Volunteers will provide technical support to the CENI local branches in the country's first municipal elections. Of the total contingent, 18 UNV Electoral Agents reached their duty station in time to contribute to the presidential round of elections on 25 April 2011.
