UNV partnering with China

The partnership between the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and the Government of the People’s Republic of China was established in 1981, when the partners signed an agreement to launch a long-term cooperative project.UNV’s main partners in China are the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE), the Chinese Young Volunteers Association (CYVA), the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (SCLF) / China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People (SCLSCC) and the Beijing Volunteer Service Federation (BVF).

UN Volunteers from China have contributed to UN programmes on poverty reduction, environmental protection, and other areas within China and across the globe. In 2022, 131 Chinese nationals served as UN Volunteers, 25 of whom were fully funded by China.

In 2019, UNV and CYVA signed the first Fully Funded Programme Partnership to facilitate international assignments of UN Volunteers from China.

During the same year, UNV, UNDP, SCLF, SCLSCC and CICETE launched another partnership: a joint project aimed to promote the participation of youth in sustainable development and building a community for a shared future for mankind.

Subsequently, in 2021, UNV, UNDP, BVF and the CICETE launched a new partnership to promote sustainable urban development through volunteer service for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The Chinese government is a longstanding partner of UNV in contributing to its Special Voluntary Fund, a flexible resource to implement the organization's strategic framework.
