Preventing violent extremism begins long before violence occurs. It means building trust, listening to communities, and ensuring young people and women can take part in decisions that affect their lives. UN Volunteers help turn these principles into action by working directly with communities, local leaders and national institutions. They support mediation, peace education, early‑warning efforts and local initiatives that build trust and resilience.

Working closely with the Independent Electoral Commission, I focus on the next electoral cycle (2026–2027). One of the most rewarding parts of my work has been joining a nationwide training mission across all ten regions of the country.

The initiative will deploy a first cohort of 50 UN Volunteers as Community Mentors for returned migrants in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Senegal and The Gambia. Most mentors are former migrants themselves, better positioned to provide guidance to people navigating the challenges of returning home after difficult journeys.
