Fabían Alejandro Ruiz Silva: Leaving no one behind

UN Volunteer Diversity and Inclusion Specialist in Ecuador, Fabían Ruiz has a deep understanding of vulnerable people in the country. He believes his primary contribution as a volunteer is to work together with the ones who are most vulnerable.

Fabían served with the Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO) in Ecuador.

He was motivated to become a volunteer because the United Nations welcomes the participation of those who are the most vulnerable.

He uses a wheelchair. Before joining the UNRCO, Fabían was a UN Volunteer Population and Development Specialist with UNFPA from 2021 to 2022.

His professional training as an economist and personal experience with a disability gave him a better understanding of the challenges that vulnerable groups have.

He shares, “I believe the most important contribution I make through my assignment comes from working with vulnerable people, analyzing their economic situation and level of poverty, so that the United Nations solutions we offer are tailored and more efficient.”
