The month of December was passing by and my sadness had turned into depression. At that moment, I had lived outside of Venezuela for almost two years, since I, like many other young people from my country, felt the need to look for opportunities beyond our borders. However, in my case, my stay in Colombia had become more challenging than expected: I couldn’t find a job where I could utilize my skills and professional knowledge, and I was quite far from content.

Kazakhstan has evolved into a vibrant society since its independence almost three decades ago. Volunteerism is increasingly taking front stage – with people more aware and interested in pitching in for social and community work. And there is huge potential of coordinating volunteerism for development in Kazakhstan...

People the world over volunteer to give back to society. The one billion and counting volunteers work to commit their time and skills to making people’s lives better.  

Toily Kurbanov, UNV Deputy Executive Coordinator, visited Astana on 23 and 24 May to meet the Government of Kazakhstan and explore avenues for cooperation with Nazarbayev University and with volunteer involving organizations.

UNV is pleased to present the findings of the 2016 UN Volunteer Survey Report, a key tool that UNV uses to assess progress towards its Strategic Framework goals and identify areas for improvements in volunteer management. This report summarizes the responses to the survey from UN Volunteers serving across the globe. We have heard from 2,900 voices of serving UN Volunteers and those who have recently completed their assignments. Summary of key findings:

Toily Kurbanov, UNV Deputy Executive Coordinator, visited Baku to meet the Government of Azerbaijan and discuss global partnership priorities based on the Government’s vision for promoting volunteerism, and building on Azerbaijan’s longstanding culture of volunteer efforts.

During his mission to the region, Mr. Kurbanov will meet partners within government, volunteer involving organizations and academia, to discuss support to volunteerism in the region.
